1) Be sure to get the latest 2.5 daily snapshot. It has the aufs bugfix
I'm referring to. 2.5 stable 1 DOES NOT have the bugfix.

Alternatively, grab 2.5Stable1 and apply
http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.5/bugs/squid-2.5.STABLE1-aufs.patch

I recommend the latest daily snapshot though.

2) Once using that code, aufs and diskd should be interchangeable.
