Correct. The Squid team does not plan any future development of NTLM
helpers by the Squid team as this is much better understood by the Samba
team, and having both teams working on implementing NTLMSSP would be a
waste of effort.

We are however working on correcting a few aspects of Squid which prevents
NTLM helpers from working fully within the NTLMSSP specs, and other bugs
in the interactions between Squid and the NTLM helpers.
