The big win for 2.6 would probably be that it has epoll support, allowing
you to experiment with using epoll instead of poll to reduce CPU usage
when there is many open filedescriptors.
epoll support for Squid exists in squid-3 and as a patch to squid-2.5 at
devel.squid-cache.org
