[squid-users] squid donations!

Hi everyone,

As some of you might be aware, I'm one of the Squid developers. I pop in from time
to time to do various performance-related work on Squid. The two main constraints
to me doing the work are what seems to be the norm with open source developers today:
time and money.

I see a lot of people chasing support for features like the WCCPv2 functionality
but its difficult to test and fix these problems without access to the right types
of equipment. In my case, I only have a single Cisco router which doesn't
have enough RAM/Flash to run any of the more recent IOSes people have had
trouble with.

Most of the recent advances have come from contributors who are using Squid
in their place of employment and have access to the right kind of kit. This is
a blessing (ie, we get the functionality - thanks to Steve Wilton for his
WCCPv2 code!) but unfortunately once it "works here" there may not be available
resources to make it work for other configurations, with other equipment.

So what I'd like to do is ask the Squid user community to consider donating
towards the Squid project. There's plenty of work that can be done!

With this in mind, Duane Wessels has setup a paypal account which people can
donate towards the Squid project. Squid isn't a non-profit organisation and
so donations aren't tax-deductable but we'll be quite loud and proud about
those who do donate - including donors in the upcoming Squid release documentation,
adding them to the Squid website and generally trying to make everyone aware
of those companies and individuals that provide financial support and/or testing
equipment.

This, and the equipment wish list which the Squid developers have been discussing
for a few weeks (but only I've filled out so far!) can be found linked off
the Squid website under "Donate". The direct url is:

http://www.squid-cache.org/donate.html

I'd like to thank those who have donated time, equipment and financial support to the
Squid project in the past and thank anyone in advance who helps out!

Thankyou!

Adrian
