It's better to use MinGW+MSYS, it works fine on my Windows XP x64.

For Squid 2.x code branch you must use Visual Studio 6.
Yes, I know that this is an old compiler version, but it generate the
better C 32 bit binaries.

The Squid project is complex, and loading it with a new Visual Studio
is not so simple.
