The hardware requirements is primarily dictated by the bandwidth
requirements. With such small bandwidth mostly any hardware (including
most things one finds on the scrap yard these days) will work fine for
Squid use.

For good hit ratio you should design the system with about 1 weeks worth
of Internet WWW traffic in cache size (see also the Squid FAQ on memory
usage). Then tune refresh_pattern suitably to make Squid cache images and
other "most often static" information more aggressively than default.
