We get lots of hits in the cabpool and lots stuff is stored.

It's very obvious when doing windows updates. When new updates come out the
first download is slow (even with 2MB ADSL) and the rest are much faster.

As far as I can see, most updates are in individual files and it's the files
that are cached.

Yes. The same update will be in the same file and so should be cached.

What size is your maximum cachable object? Ours is about 300MB!!!! The
high limit allows us to have all sorts of odds and ends in our cache.
